BORN ON THIS DAY: ANDY KAUFMAN

On January 17, 1949: Actor and performance artist Andy Kaufman was born in New York City. Kaufman, best known for his portrayal of Latka Gravas on Taxi, passed away in 1984 at the age of 35 of kidney failure caused by metastasized large-cell lung carcinoma.
