THE SHARKS AND THE JETS

On September 26, 1957: West Side Story opened at the Winter Garden Theatre on Broadway. The production was nominated for, and won, numerous Tony awards. The musical, written by Arthur Laurents, was inspired by Romeo and Juliet and became an Upper West Side love story the entire nation came to know.

GEORGE GERSHWIN

On September 26, 1898: George Gershwin was born in Brooklyn. A prolific composer and pianist, Gershwin composed many familiar pieces and works, including the classic An American in Paris as well as the opera Porgy and Bess. 

CATFISHING

On September 26, 1984: Television host and subject of the film Catfish, Nev Schulman, was born in New York City. Both the film and television show are based on the premise of two people in an ‘internet relationship’ may not be who they present themselves to be online.
