On March 8, 1971: Undefeated champ Joe Frazier beat undefeated challenger Muhammad Ali at Madison Square Garden. Frazier retained the world heavyweight title, and the match became known as the Fight of the Century.

BIRTH OF THE NEW YORK STOCK EXCHANGE

On March 8, 1817: The New York Stock Exchange was formed, after the organization drafted a constitution under the name “New York Stock & Exchange Board.”

BORN ON THIS DAY: CLAIRE TREVOR

On March 8, 1910: Actress Claire Trevor was born in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. Trevor was the “Queen of Film Noir” and won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the 1948 film Key Largo.
