THE SHOW BOAT IS HERE

On October 2, 1994: The musical Show Boat opened on Broadway at the Gershwin Theater. Written by Oscar Hammerstein II, the musical was based on Edna Ferber’s novel of the same name. The original production was adapted into 1936 and 1951 films, saw many revivals, and has been extensively analyzed concerning its place in socio-political history.

DKNY

On October 2, 1948: Designer Donna Karan was born in Forest Hills, Queens. Karan is the creator of the flourishing DKNY clothing label, which has become a part of the LVMH luxury good conglomerate. With many stores around the world, Karan’s label has become synonymous with New York style.

GROUCHO MARX

On October 2, 1890: Groucho Marx was born in New York City. Making 26 movies with his brothers Chico and Harpo, his hilarious routines would be known for generations to come.
