RICHARD DREYFUSS

On October 29, 1947: Academy Award-winning actor Richard Dreyfuss was born in Brooklyn. Dreyfuss is best known for his roles in the action-thriller films Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Piranha 3D, but also the 2008 biopic W. He won an Academy Award in 1978 for his role in The Goodbye Girl. 

HURRICANE SANDY

On October 29, 2012: Hurricane Sandy hit New York City and a large portion of the Atlantic coast. Streets flooded, power lines were cut, and many NYC’s neighborhoods and homes were heavily affected and damaged by the storm.

BLACK TUESDAY

On October 29, 1929: The New York Stock Exchange crashed, marking the end of the great Bull market of the Roaring Twenties and the beginning of the Great Depression that followed and affected the entire country.
