PORGY AND BESS

On October 10, 1935: Porgy and Bess premiered on Broadway. Written by George Gershwin, the opera is considered one of the greatest to come out of America and is also considered one of the most important pieces of American musical works of the 20th century.

YANKEES BEAT THE GIANTS

On October 10, 1937: The Yankees defeated the New York Giants four games to one in the 1937 World Series. The game marked their sixth championship in fifteen years. Lou Gehrig also hit his final Series home run during the game.
