PEGGY LIPTON

On August 30, 1946: Actress, singer, and model Peggy Lipton was born in New York City. Lipton rose to fame in the iconic TV show The Mod Squad as “Julie Barnes,” and maintained a career spanning over forty years. Lipton was once married to Quincy Jones and the couple have two children: Kadida Jones and Rashida Jones.

WEDDING BELLS FOR DAVID DINKINS

On August 30, 1953: David Dinkins married Joyce Burrows in New York City. Dinkins went on to become the 106th Mayor of New York City, serving from 1990 until 1993. He was the first and, thus far, only African American to have held this office.

On August 30, 1989: Singer-songwriter Bebe Rexha was born in Brooklyn. Known for having penned songs for hit artists like Selena Gomez, Rexha is most known for penning the chorus to the smash-hit single “The Monster,” performed by both Rihanna and Eminem.
