On October 4, 1989: Musician Lil Mama was born in Harlem and subsequently raised in Brooklyn. Born Niatia Jessica Kirkland, Lil Mama is best known for her 2007 hit single ”Lip Gloss’.” She has since been a judge on MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew. 

SUSAN SARANDON

October 4, 1946: Susan Sarandon was born in Jackson Heights, Queens. Sarandon won an Academy Award for her role in the 1996 film Dead Man Walking. Sarandon has had a long and illustrious career with countless highlights in film and television, and has branched out into being appointed a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.

DEF JAM

On October 4, 1957: Russell Simmons was born in Queens. Simons co-founded the music label Def Jam and fashion house Phat Farm. Def Jam Recordings has become one of the most prominent hip hop labels since its inception. Simmons also co-created the spoken word poetry television series Russell Simmons Presents Def Poetry, which has featured numerous legendary poets.
