FAY WRAY’S ON THE EMPIRE STATE BUILDING

MARTHA WASHINGTON HOTEL OPENED
On March 2, 1903: The Martha Washington Hotel, located at 30 East 30th Street between Madison and Park, opened as the very first hotel exclusively for women. The building was named a historical landmark by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission in June 2012.
BORN ON THIS DAY: LOU REED
On March 2, 1942: Rock legend and leader of the Velvet Underground, Lou Reed was born at Beth El Hospital (now Brookdale) in Brooklyn. Reed passed away in October 2013 from liver disease at his home in Southampton, New York, at the age of 71.
