BLITZKREIG BOP

On May 19, 1951: Joey Ramone is born in Forest Hills, Queens. Ramone was the lead singer of the punk-rock band The Ramones. The founding members of The Ramones met while attending Forest Hills High School, and subsequently catapulted to fame, releasing hits such as “Blitzkreig Bop,” “Sheena is a Punk Rocker,” and “Rockaway Beach”.

NORA EPHRON

On May 19, 1941: Novelist, screenwriter, and director Nora Ephron was born. She has been nominated three times for the Academy Award for Best Writing for an Original Screenplay.  She is the author of a number of romantic comedies such as When Harry Met Sally…, Sleepless in Seattle, and Julie & Julia. Ephron passed away in 2012.

WEDDING DAY

On May 19, 1997: Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick got married at the Angel Orensanz Foundation in the Lower East Side. Matthew Broderick, a Native New Yorker, was born in Manhattan, whereas Sarah Jessica Parker has become a  New York Icon in her own right, portraying the character “Carrie Bradshaw” in the hit HBO series Sex and the City.
