On March 18, 1959: Singer Irene Cara, most known for her Golden Globe-nominated role in Fame, was born in the Bronx. Her recording of the song “Fame” found international success.

On March 18, 1910: The Metropolitan Opera opened Frederick Converse’s The Pipe of Desire, the first American work performed there.

SISTERS ON BROADWAY

On March 18, 1993: The Sisters Rosenweig premiered on Broadway at the Ethel Barrymore Theater for a run of over 500 performances. It was nominated for several Tony Awards, including Best Actress, which the late Madeline Kahn won for her role.
