THE BATHING BEAUTY BALLET

On October 9, 1947: High Button Shoes premiered on Broadway at the New Century Theatre. The musical, about a family’s comedic interactions with two Atlantic City con men, ran for 727 performances closing in 1949.

SEAN LENNON

On October 9, 1975: Sean Lennon was born in New York City. The son of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, Sean Lennon has become an accomplished musician in his own right. Signed to the Beastie Boys’ record label Grand Royal Records, Lennon found success with his first album, Into the Sun.

START YOUR ENGINES

On October 9, 1915: Gil Andersen won the first Astor Cup Race at the Sheepshead Bay Speedway in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn. Andersen was driving a Stutz vehicle when he won.
