FREEDOM’S JOURNAL FOUNDED

On March 16, 1827: The first African American owned and operated newspaper, Freedom’s Journal, was founded in NYC by Peter Williams, Jr. The weekly only published until March 1829 and was superseded by The Rights of All.

On March 16, 2002: Actress and singer Liza Minnelli married David Gest, a concert promoter eight years her junior, at the Marble Collegiate Church in NYC. Their wedded bliss only lasted a few years and the couple divorced in 2007.
