On April 2, 1921: Albert Einstein visited New York City for the first time. He began a three-week tour of lectures and receptions throughout the City, including presentations at Columbia University and Princeton University.

On April 2, 1992: Notorious mobster John Gotti, head of the Gambino crime family, was found guilty by a New York City jury on charges of murder and racketeering. He was sentenced to life in prison, where he remained until his death in 2002.
