She began her acting career at a young age and notably starred opposite Leonardo DiCaprio as Juliet in Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet. Currently, she portrays the character Carrie in the hit Showtime series Homeland.
ENTER THE HIPPODROME
On April 12, 1905: The Hippodrome Theatre opened on Sixth Avenue. It was one of the largest and grandest venues at the time and boasted a seating capacity of 5,300. Its stage, 12 times larger than any other Broadway stage, could hold 1,000 performers or even a full-sized circus. The Hippodrome even featured an 8,000 gallon clear glass tank that could be raised to the stage by a hydraulic system.
On April 12, 1950: Musician and actor, David Cassidy was born in New York. Cassidy is widely known for his role as Keith on the 1970’s show The Partridge Family. Later in his career, he was a contestant on Celebrity Apprentice and was the first competitor eliminated.
