 ADAM SANDLER

On September 9, 1966: Comedian, writer, and producer Adam Sandler was born in Brooklyn. Sandler rose to fame in the 1990s as a cast member of SNL and has since churned out hit movie after hit movie. His signature self-deprecating comedy style has become a staple in modern American pop culture.

A SPY IS INDICTED

On September 9, 1986: Gennadi Zakharov, a Soviet U.N. official, was indicted for espionage in New York. Right around this time, American Nicholas Daniloff was formally charged with espionage in the Soviet Union.

On September 9, 1904: Mounted police were used for the very first time to protect and serve the residents of New York City. Today, they are a recognized as a symbol of New York City around the world.
