BOMBING AT LGA

On December 29, 1975: A bomb exploded at LaGuardia Airport at 6:33 p.m. near the TWA baggage reclaim terminal. Eleven people were killed and seventy-four were injured. The equivalent of 25 sticks of dynamite were used and the bomb was controlled by an everyday household item.

THE MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW’S STAR IS BORN

On December 29, 1936: Actress Mary Tyler Moore was born in Brooklyn. Moore’s first major appearance on television was on The Dick Van Dyke Show. From there, she went on to star in Thoroughly Modern Millie, and eventually came to star in her eponymous iconic television program, The Mary Tyler Moore Show.

On December 29, 1974: Actor Mekhi Phifer was born in Harlem. After attending an open audition and winning the lead role in Spike Lee’s 1995 film Clockers, Phifer went on to star in the iconic soap opera ER, and later starred opposite Eminem in the 2002 film 8 Mile.
