Inspired by bands like Kiss and The New York Dolls, Theo Kogan and her friends decided to start an all girl band — The Lunachicks — while in a New York City high school…with hardly any musical experience. They were discovered by Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth and quickly made a name for themselves, becoming one of the most notable all female bands of the 90s, alongside L7, Bikini Kill, and Hole. As The Lunachicks lead singer, Theo toured the world but maintained her downtown NYC scene root, and was a regular performer at the legendary party Squeezebox…rocking the band’s “Barbie on Acid” look.
