Where is he from? Born in a brownstone located at 28 East 20th Street, in modern-day Gramercy.
What’s he done? Roosevelt was governor of New York, vice president of the United States, and became the youngest man to assume the president in 1901 when he became the 26th president after President William McKinley was assassinated. He also received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1906.
Why is he an icon? Roosevelt is the only New York native to ever ascended the ranks to be come POTUS. He also was an avid outdoorsman, known for his ecological conservatism.
