“I have a huge, active imagination, and I’m really scared of being alone; because if I’m left to my own devices, I’ll just turn into a madwoman.”
New York native Claire Danes always knew whom she was. Since the age of 6, Danes has been driven to become an actress. This led to her eventual enrollment in a performing arts school. This helped her attain an agent. At first Danes had a few bit roles on Law & Order, but that would soon change when she cast in the role of Angela Chase on the ABC Series, My So Called Life.
The show premiered two years after being filmed. The show was never a heavyweight in the rating department, but it was a favorite among critics. Her performance was so well received that she won a Golden Globe for Best Actress at the 1994 Golden Globes. However this would be a hollow triumph since ABC decided to cancel the series after 19 episodes. Here she is with then co-star Jared Leto in a scene from the series:

Danes would even achieve something akin to teen starlet status after starring opposite Leonadro DiCrapio in William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. However after appearing in a number of films including The Rainmaker, The Mod Squad, and Brokedown Palace, Danes took a short break from film. She completed two years at Yale before coming back to the film industry.
When she came back to film, she made precise choices on what sort of films she would appear in. She starred in such films as Shopgirl, Stardust, and The Hours. She even returned to television to star in the HBO film, Temple Grandin, which brought Danes her first Emmy Award.
But the role Danes is currently being celebrated for is her role as Carrie Mathison on the Showtime series Homeland. She plays a mentally ill CIA agent who believes a recently rescued POW is in league with the terrorists that held him captive. Danes has received Two Golden Globes and an Emmy for her work in Homeland. Here is a scene from the critically acclaimed series, Homeland:
Claire Danes has established herself as one of the best actresses on either the big or small screen. While she does get some humorous critiques for her “chin acting” (just Google it), her roles are the embodiment of what actors strive to be: compelling, raw, and provocative. Those kinds of sounds like New York to me, but I’ll leave it up to you to decide.
