We’re watching…

True Blood, Season 7

We’re only a few episodes deep in the final season of HBO’s hit series True Blood, and per usual, Sookie and company are all up to their usual blood-spattered shenanigans — and that’s fine by us. And as sad as we’ll be to say au revoir to Bon Temps, we are excited to see Charlaine Harris, who authored the books that inspired True Blood, in her confirmed cameo for the series finale.

We’re eating…

Located in the East Village, Jeepney isn’t your typical NYC international cuisine restaurant (Thai food, we’re looking at you). This Filipino gastropub offers a dynamic, friendly environment, where you’re almost as likely to end up chatting with your server or bartender as you are with your date. While you’re there, be sure to try the Adobong Hipon (prawns) and the Lumpiang  Shanghai, a Filipino take on the spring roll, washed down with a refreshing Hilda Koronel. And for dessert, you can’t go wrong with a Halo Halo. Jeepney is a great spot for brunch (and we all know New Yorkers love brunch), and family style Kamayan night on Wednesdays and Thursdays takes it to a whole new level.

Forbes senior editor Zack O’Malley, the critically acclaimed author behind Empire State of Mind is back, gives readers an incredibly in-depth look at the life of the late Michael Jackson. Everyone knows that Michael Jackson was a wildly popular entertainer, but O’Malley explores the incredible business empire he built, and its roller coaster ride of success, with interviews from industry insiders, veterans, and members of the Jackson family.

We’re listening to…

“The Star Spangled Banner” by Whitney Houston

Call us cliche, but between the fireworks and the US Men’s Soccer team’s disappointing round of 16 exit from the World Cup, we’re feeling all kinds of patriotic. We dare you not to get chills. Take it away, Whitney.
