Oprah does it. Ellen does it. So you better believe we’re going to do it, too. It’s not a trendy juice cleanse (we love carbs too much), but rather, it’s time to list some of our favorite things. Here, in no particular order, are 10 of our favorite Native Approved’s from 2014.

10. We’re buying…

Baxter of California

Establishing a tradition of excellence in men’s grooming since 1965, Baxter of California offers a wide range of products, meeting all the essential needs of the modern, well-groomed man. From head (the clay pomade is topnotch) to toe, and everything in between (don’t miss the Invigorating Body Wash), Baxter has you covered and continues “grooming generations of gentleman.”

9. We’re Eating…

Chalk Point Kitchen

Restauranteur Matt Levine has done it again with his newest hot spot, Chalk Point Kitchen, with chef Joe Isidori. Chalk Point Kitchen is market-to-table, sourced right here in New York and hand selected by Isidori, which means the menu changes weekly based on what is available and in season. That being said, hurry over and order the snow peas while you can, because they could be gone in a New York Minute! This delightfully rustic space is perfect to enjoy fabulous food and sweet sips, all served by a friendly, knowledgable staff.

8. We’re watching…

Guardians of the Galaxy

Marvel Comic turned blockbuster, Guardians of the Galaxy boasts an all-star cast including Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Djimon Hounsou, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close, and Benicio del Toro. Directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy has a near perfect score from Rotten Tomatoes and was a hit with audiences — all the makings of a record breaking action blockbuster.

7. We’re buying…

Armour Beauty

Created by rocker/model/mom Theo Kogan, Armour Beauty is the definitive glam rock lip gloss. Bold, naturally based, and each named for a song, band, or pop icon, Armour was born from Kogan’s desire for a “lip gloss that would stay on during a performance.” The newest line of products, Armour V, is entirely vegan, and could be the perfect gift for the socially conscious rockstar in your life.

6. We’re buying…

Bees Knees Spicy Honey

Bees Knees Spicy Honey, locally produced by Brooklyn-based startup Mixed Made, is a sweet and spicy treat with a little kick. It’s billed as “Good on Everything,” and frankly, we’ve been putting it to the test (and we have the nearly empty bottle to prove it). Pizza, cheese, donuts, apples, tea — you name it. We haven’t encountered a more delicious, unexpected combination since the Cronut. Apply liberally and enjoy.

5. We’re eating…

Whynot Bistro

Whynot, a charming new Parisian-style bistro located in the heart of the West Village, is serving up delicious French fare, courtesy of Chef Dominick Pepe. This cozy, Paris-chic spot boasts an impressive menu (some of our favorites include the Croques, Salad Nicoise, Steak Tartare, and Rabbit Cacciatore) that can be paired with their extensive wine selection — especially when you factor in their Winter Wine Special (50% off on all bottles of wine through March!). Not hungry? Whynot has you covered: enjoy an exceptional cup of coffee surrounded by the paintings of NY-based modern artist, Jeremy Penn, who has shown his work at Miami Art Basel.

4. We’re wearing…

Christopher Lee Sauve

Influenced by Andy Warhol and Keith Haring, the designs of Christopher Lee Sauvé are irreverent in all the right ways. Following the viral success of his now infamous “SAVE ANNA” t-shirts, “The Reluctant Provocateur” is showing no signs of slowing down. He’s already worn by the likes of Gaga and Miley, and now you can be part of “The Pop Cult Club” and start rocking his tongue-in-cheek fashion, too! As a holiday gift to our viewers, Sauvé is offering 30% off his entire online store with promo code “NEWYORKNATIVES” until the end of the year! Happy shopping!

3. We’re listening to…

“Paper Crown” by Alec Benjamin

As if composing music in his dorm room isn’t enough of an accomplishment, up and coming singer-songwriter Alec Benjamin also creates animations to go with them. Catchy but not gimmicky with a driving chorus, “Paper Crown” features little more than a piano and Benjamin’s vocals, and well, that’s all it really needs.

2. We’re going to…

Penthouse808 at the Ravel Hotel in Long Island City is the ultimate rooftop restaurant and lounge, and provides a breathtaking view of the Manhattan skyline and Queensboro Bridge. Penthouse808 features a retractable glass wall that can separate the outdoor deck, making it the perfect spot year round, which is great, because we can’t get enough of their Hawaiian and Asian inspired menu, courtesy of Executive Chef Seth Levine. So whether it’s dinner and drinks or your next big event, Penthouse808 has everything you need with a view that can’t be beat.

1. We’re eating…

Bar Bacon

The people at this cozy Hell’s Kitchen spot must have figured that combining two indulgences would be a recipe for success…and we’re inclined to agree. Bar Bacon offers a variety of craft beers and, as it’s name would imply, bacon (and other great food), surrounded by lively energy, great music, and comfortably cool atmosphere. We suggest ordering the special Beer & Bacon Flight, featuring a selection of four craft beers and eight strips of artisanal bacon (four different flavors) for $20. Did we mention bacon? BACON!
