JESUS ON BROADWAY

On October 12, 1971: Jesus Christ Superstar premiered on Broadway at the Mark Hellinger Theater. The production of the rock opera ran for 711 performances. The clip below is from the 1973 film adaptation.

SID & NANCY, NO LONGER

On October 12, 1978: Nancy Spungen, Sid Vicious’ girlfriend, was found dead in the hotel room the couple shared at the Chelsea Hotel. Spungen had suffered a single stab wound to the abdomen. Vicious was arrested and charged with second degree murder, but died from a drug overdose before the trail could take place.

BORN ON THIS DAY: SCOTT O’GRADY

On October 12, 1965: Former US Air Force fighter pilot Scott O’Grady was born in Brooklyn. Behind Enemy Lines is loosely based on O’Grady’s experiences in Bosnia during the mid 1990s.
