WE PAID 50 CENTS TO SEE A BALL GAME
On July 20th, 1858: The first fee was charged to see a baseball game. Those onlookers whose entrance was gained for just 50 cents got to see a 22-18 win for New York against Brooklyn.
STOTTLEMYER HIT A BIG ONE
On July 20th, 1965: New York Yankee Mel Stottlemyre hit an inside-the-park grand slam, making him integral in that fateful night’s 6-3 defeat of the Red Sox. Stottlemyre’s staggering play was the first of its kind made by a pitcher since 1910.
BORN ON THIS DAY: JAY JAY FRENCH
On July 20th, 1952: Guitarist, manager, producer, and Brooklyn native Jay Jay French was born. Best known as the founding member and guitarist for Long Island-born heavy metal band Twisted Sister, French has played over 9,000 concert performances in 34 countries and sold over 20 million albums. In 2000, French received the New Hampshire Excellence in Education award for “Efforts to Curb Substance abuse Among Young People”.
