THE FIRST NEW YORKERS

On May 16th, 1624: Thirty immigrant families from Holland arrived in New York Harbor and settle on what is now known as Governor’s Island. These were the first immigrants to settle in what is now known as New York City.

PAN AM HELICOPTER CRASH

On May 16th, 1977: A New York Airway helicopter toppled on the rooftop helipad on top of the Pan Am building on Park Avenue killing five people.

BORN ON THIS DAY: TRACEY GOLD

On May 16th, 1969: Actress Tracey Gold was born. Gold played Carol Seaver in the hit television sitcom Growing Pains.  Happy 44th birthday Tracey.
