12,000 STRONG AGAINST SWEATSHOP CONDITIONS
On September 4, 1894: 12,000 tailors went on strike against the sweatshop system in New York City. Labor leaders cited sweatshops as being overcrowded, susceptible to fire and rat infestations, and poorly ventilated.
